Social Justice at Saint Anthony of Padua

The mission of the Social Justice Committee of Saint Anthony of Padua parish is to advocate and act for justice and love of our neighbor as Jesus taught. All are invited to participate; if you'd like more information or to sign-up to participate by sharing your thoughts and ideas, please email fred@stanthonyparish.org (blogmaster) or ubaldo@stanthonyparish.org (Social Minister).

ADVOCACY: We advocate on international, national, state, and local issues through parish advocacy, through existing organizations like S.A.L.T. (http://www.s-a-l-t.org/) and the Virginia Catholic Coalition (http://www.vacatholic.org/), as well as through building a new, non-partisan ecumenical group for Northern Virginia in partnership with I.A.F. (Industrial Area Foundation -- a community organizing group active in the Washington, D.C. and Maryland).

ACTION: We support the work of the parish social minister, Ubaldo Cisneros; A.C.C.A. (the Annandale Christian Community -- an ecumenical social action organization); and the Culmore Resource Center as well as the other ministries in the parish that impact social justice like the parish nurse, Georgine Redmond.

INFORMATION: In order to Advocate or Act effectively, we obviously need:
  1. timely information on issues and needs;
  2. ideas and energy to address those issues and needs; and
  3. faith sharing to help us each grow in our love of God and our neighbor.

Sharing information is the major purpose of this web blog. It provides a place for us each to post information about issues like immigration, housing, employment, health, and hunger; to alert each other to things we can do to help; and to share readings and thoughts on our faith and social justice.
